We really tried to capture the essence of friendship in the video because ultimately that is what we are. Friends that play music together. Having toured 19 countries across 3 continents over the past 5 years, Canadian pop-rock band; The Maddigans has a lot going on for them. Starting out in 2008, the band has released three EPs and have gathered a strong fan base across the globe. Comprising of Seb Sanders, Trisha Watson and Benn Kimmis, these three talented individuals have displayed nothing but passion and talent on every song they have produced. Trisha's impeccable vocal ability with the compliments of both Benn and Seb is indeed a stand out feature of this young and upcoming band. "Miles Ahead" is a catchy number from their EP Love vs Passion. We had the opportunity to have a chat with Seb Sanders from THE MADDIGANS. What a wonderful lad. PHOTO: RYAN RUSSELL / DOUBLE R Tell us more about 'The Maddigans' The Maddigans was formed in 2008. Benn and Trisha had played in bands together since they were teenagers and have been writing music together since. In their first two years as a band, they wrote and released the EP - Way To Start This. They did a whole bunch of Canadian tours. I joined the band in July, 2010. We toured all over Canada and the North East US until we released our EP Love vs Passion in June 2012. Since that summer we have toured in 19 countries across 3 continents, all independently. We are currently working on our next release and planning to tour many more countries in 2014. You've been on tours all over North America and Europe, what has been the best tour experience? Every tour we do is always a completely different experience so it is tough to say but I definitely think Russia/Ukraine was the most insane. But for me the best will always be my first tour which was Canada/US. It must have been good because I haven't been able to stop since! PHOTO: THE MADDIGANS Tell us more about the video"miles ahead"- what inspired it? Well the song Miles Ahead is really about the struggles of being in a band that tours a lot and being stuck together all the time. Every group will have difference of opinions and it is important to remember that a disagreement isn't personal. It is also about having other people not believing in you so you stick together as a group to make it through the rough times. We really tried to capture an essence of friendship in the video because ultimately that is what we are. Friends that play music together. Who are your musical influences? As with most bands in our scene the classics like Sum 41, Green Day and Blink 182 are the reason I play pop-punk. But my current influences are Relient K, Cartel, The Maine, The wonder Years and Third Eye Blind. But music is always progressing and I always hear new bands that change the way I see my own music. When and how did you know that music was a career path for you? I think for all of us it was the latter part of our teenage years that we all decided to pursue music full on. For me personally, I made the decision that it was my only option when I was about 16/17. I remember my year head in school told me it was an unlikely career path so I dropped out of school just to prove him wrong! I don't think I realized until I was about 19 what it really took to be in a touring band but the lessons I have learnt have been worth the hard work. Apart from music, do you have other hobbies? Music takes up most of my time but I love seeing my friends outside of the band, being with my girlfriend, playing sports when I can and playing x-box! I am also a huge Manchester United fan so I watch every match religiously! What do you hope to change in the Punk scene? We would like to add more of a sense of community to the scene. We really love the idea of everyone helping everyone but sometimes it doesn't work that way and it feels more like a competition. So we would like to influence and encourage people to do something nice like shoot a video for a band, take pictures of bands, take another band on an awesome tour or even just post about more bands that need the exposure. The difference being they would do it for fun, not for personal gain. A SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM SEB TO ALL SINGAPOREAN FANS : Thank you for speaking English and checking out this interview.
