By: Jaaziel Job Australian natives Roswell are barely a year old but are already supporting major acts like The Wonder Years, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus and Hawthorne Heights. Given their vast musical background, it is no surprise that each member of the Perth-born band has a lot to offer music lovers worldwide. Citing The Wonder Years, Set Your Goal and The Story So Far as their musical influences, Kat says their lyrics are entirely based on personal experiences. Lyrically, they are all personal experiences. That's usually my outlet. Musically, I think our favourite bands have set a certain standard for us in terms of song structure and making something musically satisfying. Kat delivers us a story with her singing - which is for the lack of a better word, flawless. A perfect blend of rasp, grunge and vocal range. Roswell delivers with charisma far better than many pop-punk bands today, with each member complimenting the next. It is with utmost confidence that I say this - Roswell is here for the longrun and I'm excited to see what the trio offers us next. Check out out full interview with Katt Nelson (Lead vocalist of Roswell) below. Tell us more about Roswell?
We started playing shows about a year ago - so we're still pretty new. We take a lot of influence from bands like The Wonder Years and Set Your Goals. You recently released your debut EP - "No One Lives Here Anymore", tell us more about this? The writing process for this release probably started well before the band even came together. I did a lot of writing while I was in between bands, I wanted to start something more like the bands I listened to, this EP was the result of that. What inspires your song writing? Lyrically, they are all personal experiences. That's usually my outlet. Musically, I think our favourite bands have set a certain standard for us in terms of song structure and making something musically satisfying. Your music video for “Bodies” is pretty amazing. What was the concept behind this? Originally the concept was to just find an abandoned house and make a video that was kind of dark in theme. I guess that was to follow the chorus "I know where the bodies are buried". We were on a budget so the idea of putting parts of a doll back together was more or less the result of not wanting to spend too much on props. Any big plans for Roswell in terms of touring and new music? There have definitely been a few new songs we've been throwing around. I think they'll end up on whatever we release next. We definitely want to make it to other parts of Australia in 2015. So far we haven't left our city. There are so many bands and people sharing their music over the internet – what makes Roswell different from the rest? I think we try to make ourselves as accessible to our fans as possible. We like to try and thank everyone individually who has supported us in any way. I think that's a simple yet often neglected quality in local (Australian) bands today.
